The Fabric
FNX garments are made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton fabric imported from Italy and Japan. GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard and it’s unique from other certifications in two important ways.
- The GOTS certification includes criteria for the ethical treatment of workers in addition to its environmental standards.
- 20% of the world’s water pollution is the result of textile treatment and dyeing. The GOTS certification requires not just that the cotton fiber is grown organically, but it is processed (milled and dyed) sustainably including prohibiting toxic chemicals and requiring the proper treatment of wastewater.
The Trims
A garment is more than the fabric and every detail matters. It's in these details that plastic and petroleum based fibers sneak their way into clothing. Most clothing has plastic trims (i.e. buttons, zippers) and polyester labels (including the brand label, size label, and care label). Clothing labels must include fiber content information, but brands are not required to report the fiber content of trims.
FNX garments have plastic-free buttons, made either from shell or fabric-covered metal, and cotton labels. Where will you find plastic on an FNX garment? The thread. Polyester thread is much stronger than cotton thread. Using cotton thread would compromise the quality and reduce the life of the garment. Sustainability decisions are not always simple, the aim is mindfulness and progress.
The Construction
Quality and longevity are guiding principles in the design and production process for each FNX garment, that's why every FNX garment is finished with French seams. French seams have two rows of stitching instead of one, they add to the cost of production, but they make for a cleaner interior finish and a more durable garment.
The Packaging
When you order from FNX, your garment will arrive wrapped in recyclable tissue paper made from 100% post-consumer and post-industrial content. Like the beautiful garment it encloses, this tissue paper is made in the USA.
Sealing the tissue paper is a sticker made of 100% FSC recycled paper and printed with vegetable-based ink.
Finally, your FNX garment is mailed in a 100% compostable mailer. This mailer features a double adhesive seal and can be reused if you need a return or exchange.
